Reality television has really blown up these past few years. With shows like American Idol, Dancing with the stars, and America's next top model, people are beginning to realize, that could be them one day. With shows like these on the air, it gives hope for the average joe to believe in his or herself, that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
With that said, some of the reality shows airing today are disrespectful to most people. I Love New York, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, and Rock of Love are just a couple of the shows that some people may think are too sexual and violent for some viewers. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing people yell and scream at each other on national television, however; some viewers may believe that Reality television shows are going too far with sexuality and violence.
What are your views on Reality television these days? Are you a fan of the popular shows like American Idol, or are you a fan of shows like I Love New York?

Reality TV shows are definately a huge thing nowadays. I think shows like American Idol and Americas Next Top Model are good shows, that give people a chance to make their dreams come true. Even though I watch shows like I Love New York and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, I think that they are kind of trashy. These people arent really trying to find love, They are just trying to make money. It's all about ratings.
A lot of the reality shows on tv are too over the top and trashy. But that's why people watch them. I think I remember hearing that I Love New York (the first one) was like the highest rated show on VH1 ever? So I don't think they're going away any time soon.
I despise and don't even watch most of the shows that are on MTV these days. The are disrespectful to everyone whether everyone knows it or not. Most of these shows show us the absolute worst that humans can be and it pays for them to do it. That is wrong in my book. I enjoy American Idol because there is no sex and violence and it is a pretty interesting series. I think that alot of the shows out there nowadays are becoming to trashy because thats what Americans expect and want. I think if we don't turn away soon from these kind of shows that Americans will soon have no morals and that may lead to some unsteady times in our future.
“I love seeing people yell and scream at each other on national television” exactly! This is what sells MTV, FOX, VH1, you name it, and they are all getting richer because reality T.V. watchers like to see drama. In addition, what most do not realize it that this stuff is rehearsed, put together, and fake. That does not matter because whether someone is being disrespected on American Idol by the panel or someone is being disrespected on I Love New York it is all the same. I am not a fan of reality at all. I don’t have cable and only have a T.V. to play my Nintendo Wii on.
I have to admit I LOVE reality TV. I think Americans are to caught up on sexuailty, and violence. Have you ever watched European TV. I think that it is milder here in the states. Watch what you want. If you don't like it turn the channel!
I don't really watch tv and have never seen the Tila Tequila thing; but,I have to agree with Margret. Americans are too caught up on the sexual content of shows. I have been in Europe and watched their networks. The showss over here are mild on sexual and violent content compared to theirs. If the people watching don't agree with the content, then what are they doing watching it in the first place? There are thousands of other channels to watch.
I feel that there are too many reality shows. And that they should you the air time space for more educational programs for the kids. American idol was not to bad being it offered a chance at life for a lot of talent kids.
I hardly watch them. I'd rather atch something with a plot than seeing people get violent with one another over stupid reasons.
Oh how timely... Unless something happens late tonight, starting tomorrow, the WGA, the writer's guild is going on strike. Inside two months most likely, all scripted tv shows will have to shut down for the season/interum. That's bad enough... but the studios will try to make their money back, and the only way is likely to be... reality tv. not exactly unscripted, but less scripted enough you don't need a writer for it. Everyone hold your breath.
I think you make a real good point there is too much sexuality and violence on t.v. these days. I watch both types of shows; shows like american idol are really fun to watch just because their are some rediculous people out there and also you hope the best for your favorite singer. Then there is shows like I love New York which is very scandalous and pervocitive but who doesn't like to see some drama sometimes.
Reality shows are a very cheap way for T.V. stations to entertain their audience. Most reality shows aren't even "real reality". I don't want to name any, becuase I wouldn't want to ruin any of them for you guys. Personally, I dont care for reality shows. But they work, so I'm sure they will be around for awhile!
I despise the whole world of "reality" TV...for one thing most of it is NOT real. They are still on television and that alone makes a whole lot of it exagerated and put on. I do not have television in my home. I get my news and weather from the radio and newspaper, as well as carefully chosen sites on the internet. I sometimes feel as though the news channels have turned into reality tv, making a big splash out of the trashy stuff and barely hitting on the good or important news.
I have written many letters to many television and government officials about the explotation of certain groups of people on these shows. Though I recieved replies it boils down to the fact that I am a minority...this is the trash AMERICANS want to see. So I did all I could do....I pulled the plug!
In my opinion all these reality shows are really fake.I have to admit that when I have an extra time, I watch them because they're kind funny. It really pisses me off that shows like I love New York, or Tila Tequila are waste of time because neither New York or Tila will end up with the person who will winn the show. Its not reality at all.
I LOVE AMERICAN IDOL!! As far as the other shows I didn't get into to them to much. My children don't watch any of them either except American Idol. I do feel like like that there are certain few that show off way to many things for children to watch. But, in all actuality it's probably a lot of the same things they all ready see at home. I don't think children should watch a lot of the things that are on the T.V. It just falls back on the parents and what they monitor what the kids watch.
I am a major fan of American Idol, Don't Forget the Lyrics, So You Think You Can Dance, and so on. I've never heard of the ones you label violent and sexual but I could imagine from what I've seen years ago on The Fifth Wheel. I wouldn't want my children watching those shows but that's where TV blocking comes in!
Personally I like certain reality shows on television. Howerver, i would have to agree with you that many are over the top too sexual and etc. I believe that shows like I Love New York and Flavor of Love are a bad example of African-Americans and do nothing but add to already negative sereotypes. I had a friend that went for a casting call and some tryout and she was told that she can not get the part in the reality show because she was not ghetto enough. When I watch television I get the feeling that the only shows that i see with African-American individuals on it have them either acting ghetto, loud or ignorant and that bothers me.
I do know that these netwroks like VH1 and MTV run these programs to have excessive amounts of sexuality, violence and other profane things because of ratings. I just believe these examples go to far, and do not help a already ailing teenage generation(which are the main viewer base) which sit in front of the T.V. hours upon hours during the day.

I'm glad some parents make the effort to keep their children from watching those shows. I wish most parents would endorse a little bit more restriction on the things their children watch on TV.
Thumbs Up to you!

Now that I think more on it, the only reality show I watch is American Idol. I only watch the beginning of the seasons though to watch people screw up.
