The dog fighting incident involving Michael Vick has gone too far. The man has committed a crime, has plead guilty to doing it, and will serve time in jail for his actions. Is that not enough? What he has done is not right, but at the same time, there has been far much worst things that has happen and will happen in this world. I think that some people in this world are crazy. The way Michael has been treated concerning his mistake makes me mad i.e., excessive and massive media exploitation and selling dog chewed Vick football cards on Ebay.
It was not that long ago when Black people were being treated less than dogs or anything for that matter. In fact, it was the law to be able to hang, beat, drown, kill, burn, torture and/or do whatever you want to do to a Black person right here in the USA without having any consequences. Where was and is the out cry and outrage about that type of cruel and evil behavior towards a human??? I am very disgusted on the level of priority this has taken over the issues of murders and rapings of HUMAN BEINGS!!!

There are laws against what Vick did. He was caught and he should pay the price the courts set, just like anyone else would have to. We all seem to be in agreement that what he did was wrong.
The question seems to be whether his occupation should also suffer. Because he is a celebrity, should he be held to higher standards? If someone else were caught doing the same thing, would it cost him his job?
The cashiers’ position at Wal-Mart would probably not be threatened because he got arrested. Most people would probably not even notice or hear about it. On the other hand, Michael Vick is a star, a hero; and ultimately a role model.
He is held to higher standards, as his actions have a greater impact on society than the average persons. That is just the way it is for celebrities. There will be all kinds of rash statements concerning what should happen to him, but thankfully, there are laws that govern that also.
Jerrod is correct; he has been punished by the courts. But what every one fails to remember, is that we all would have the same punished. He just happens to have more to loose than the aveage person. His career will be affected, as an athlete he is a product to his team owners. His name has been tainted, he will not be able to sell himself the same. When you make a mistake of this degree it is bound to cost you quite a bit. We all know that every thing has a consequence and unfortunately his will be higher than others.
I am in agreement with the comments made thus for, and he should pay for his actions. Should he be made to give the falcons back the 22 million dollars that is rightfully his for even signing a contract in the begining? And isn't it ironic that they are talking about killing the 50 dogs that were removed from his property if no one will adopt them, and he is being punished for killing the ones that did not fight well...
I totally agree with ur comments Jerrid. I wrote a blog on the same subject. I really like the point you made about how blacks use to be treated worst than dogs. There are alot more important things going on in this world than some dogs fighting. I feel like what he did was wrong but he shouldnt lose his job and his freedom over it.
I meant i agreed with Marion not Jerrid.
I am so sick of all the Mike Vick talk going on. I actually knew a guy who was sent to prison 15 years ago for the exact same charges and few extra charges that proved he was a sick sick man. Well you would never know who he was unless you lived in the area and caught the 2 minute shot on the 11 o'clock news of the dead dogs outside his house. The media controls way too much in this world. Mike Vick is a man who committed a crime he should serve his time and get on with his life. THe guy I knew has suffered every moment since his release, loss of job, loss of his family, loss of trust within his community. Mike Vick is one of the lucky ones who will walk away when this is all over and still have more in his life than most people we know.
I pray for him and hope he learns from his sitution and I hope it will prevent even one person to stop dogfighting or prevent one from ever starting. Lessons from our mistakes are the only way to grow. :)
I'm going to agree with cindy on this, vick will probably get the better end of the stick in this situation than most people would. I do not have any ideas how his reputation will turn out though, but he will probably come out of this worse than other celeberties for actually being found guilty.
I don't know about him getting off easier than the average person. I think certainly for any given punishment he would have more to fall back on, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be the better for being a celebrity when this is all over. All the 'extra' stuff he has to lose is being taken away, but much more than that, he's very visible. Combine that with the public outcry and he could be made an 'example.' We'll see what the eventual outcome is. You'd hope everyone gets equal punishment for the same crime, but I think it can go both more and less.
I agree with you on the count that people have taken it too far. Just because I am curious, what is your aim in bringing up race?
I was also wondering why race was brought up but nonetheless, I really think Vick has to pay for what he did. It is very contradicting that they're talking about putting those poor dogs to sleep.
I agree with the previous post; why should race be an issue. Regardless of race, we should all be held to the same standards.
