Gun Control
So I was talking to one of my friends before I had to post this blog. I was all worried about what to post about but then my friend and I got into a conversation about firearms. I am a firm believer in gun control and I absolutely love firearms. To me they are very fun and there is many of things to learn about firearms. I believe that most of the people who are against firearms don't understand firearms. They believe that guns are the reason for all the murders and violence and evil in the world. Firearms are just as dangerous as cars are. More people a year die in auto accidents as compared to firearms. Firearms are used to protect everything that this country has ever stood for. Firearms do not kill people and never have the people behind the gun pulling the trigger has. I used to work in a place that sold firearms and one day some when came in that were protesting people buying guns. The owner was here on this day and he pulled out a gun at put it at on th counter. He told the women to come over and watch something. When they gathered around the gun he pointed it in there direction while still on the counter and he looked at the gun and said "kill". Nothing happened and he continued to yell "kill" many times. The women looked at him and he said "see, the gun can't kill anyone without a person behind it". Everyone in the store that appreciated and understood firearms started clapping and yelling. The group of women actually apologized for there protest and left the store. A week later 2 of the women came back and bought guns for themselves. This is an example of how knowing and understanding firearms can make a difference. When a person owns a firearm and carries out the proper safety rules of firearms then they are the safest things out there and can save many life's in the end. I myself own more than one firearm of many different types and I appreciate every one of them. I will be interested to hear what some other opinions are.

I think one argument that's made, right or wrong, is the ease and efficiency with which guns are able to kill.
Well, I am a firm believer in firearms as well. Growing up, hunting, target practicing and etc, from a very young age. The thing I was taught before even being able to hold one in my hand; was to have respect for the firearm and for people. With that learning I was able to understand and respect how much fun or deadly firearms can be. I love hunting, with my family and wouldn't change it for the world. However, I do believe there should be extremely harsh penalties and jail time for individuals that own firearms with out licenses. To own a firearm takes care, responsibility, and respect for what it can do. And in the hands of people that are not licenses and have the wrong intentions it is deadly. So I believe owning and using guns is a privilege that is taken for granted by those that abuse them.
I don't own any firearms but I believe PEOPLE are the problem not the firearms they own. Guns can be used for murder and violence but a person picked up that gun and made the decision to shoot. A sound minded, responsible person should be able to own a firearm for protection and/or for sport but the problem is not everyone who owns them are of sound mind which is why I think it's a good idea to have a strict policy to get purchase guns and to obtain a license. And I agree that harsh penalties should be in place for those who do not obtain a valid license.
Gun control is just another way for government to grow bigger and gain power. In Kennesaw, authorities say there is a correlation between their mandatory gun owning law and a major crime decrease over the past two decades.
I am a firm believer that the problem is not the gunitself but the person behind it. I think that there should be tighter restrictions on who should be allowed to have a gun though that will never come to be because it violates the personal right to carry a firearm.
The difference is that while a car is dangerous, its sole purpose is not to kill or harm someone. I am completely against guns and would never have one in my home. It's nice to say that "guns don't kill people, people kill people".. But the fact is that guns facilitate murders, suicides, household accidents, etc. These rates would definitely be lower if guns weren't made so readily available to the average person. They're just too dangerous when in the hands of people they don't belong in. I do understand.. A handgun has one purpose--to harm someone.
As you'll learn in the argumentation portion of the class, you have to give something to the other side so that they will listen to your argument. I do think that our lackluster history of gun ownership springs from a basic need of food back in the 16th to 18th centuries.
Unfortunately, today, teens are shooting at schools as a way to unload their rage. I'm not sure how that underdeveloped teen brain equates to 'gun don't shoot people.'
Further, I don't think Kennesaw should be so proud of their peculiar gun law that everyone should own a gun. I'm a Quaker, and they couldn't make me own a gun or keep me from living there.
Statistically, in the world, we're at the top of the list for murder. If there were no guns, Kennesaw wouldn't have to feel this need to protect themselves. And you did say guns. I don't think guns are used to shoot deer. At least my nephews in Mississippi don't use guns in the woods.
And what about the kid who sneaks out a night and comes home to a dark hall, and Dad shoots him/her in the stomach, thinking a burgler is in the house?
I don't like guns. I think the gun owners should think about a solution to Collumbine and VA Tech, a solution to the sniper in the car a few years ago, a solution to husbands and wives shooting one another after a fight, a solution to disgruntled employees killing their co-workers.
Consider my right to be safe from those of you with guns and then I'll consider your right to own one.
I do believe that guns were created in order to harm of kill something, but as bad as it may sound that use is sometimes needed. I'm not saying killing is right, but if you can merely harm (to a point thats not fatal) or even scare something enough with it, then it is useful. Not all people behind a gun have the intent to kill for pleasure. I don't even think the original concept for weaponry was to harm for pleasure either, but for person benefits like hunting for food.
I'm kind of on the ropes with this one. I'm not against guns and I'm not for them. They are made to harm, but also protect. I live in a pretty bad neighborhood and I'm thinking about getting a gun for protection.
I don't own a gun or think that I should have a gun in my home with small children. I believe there should be a longer waiting period for purchasing a gun.
A neighborhood child was visiting, and his mom came to pick him up. She bragged that she had a gun in her purse. I put the purse in the closet until she left. Our kids were 11-years-old. They would love have loved playing cops and robbers with a REAL GUN.
"That the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the state; and as standing armies in the time of peace are dangerous to liberty..." I think this says it all. The right to bear arms was devised as a means for people to protect oneself and one's property and this liberty should never be taken away. I agree with others that it's too easy for some people to obtain firearms, particularly those with mental instabilities. Our gun laws should be tightened to reflect this. I also think if people want to buy a gun they'll buy one whether legal or not. Let's just make it as difficult as possible for those who shouldn't have one in their possession.
Aaron,
I agree with you that guns don't kill people, people kill people, So way then you need a gun. You dont need a gun to protect yourself. I lived all my life and don't own a gun. I am not affair to walk the streets. I believe that wants you don't bother people they will not bother you. I dont need a gun. Because if you have a gun I believe that helps to put thoughs in your head. The question to ask is: What is a gun intentions, WHy did people create a gun? And the answer is....TO SHOOT....And Shooting someone or anything can kill or hurt really bad. So No I don't believe in the right to bear arms.
